Presentation 1: Kopaki Bridge Temporary Works
Gus Montgomery (Downer New Zealand Ltd) will present highlights of the unique challenges and solutions of constructing this state highway bridge. Described by one engineer as one of New Zealand’s most complicated bridges, the structure is a skewed bridge, on a gradient, with changing superelevation and spans across both rail and water. Shallow rock under poor soil and Covid disruptions also added to the complexity in delivering this project.

Presentation 2: SH25A
Gil Johnstone (Fulton Hogan), Andy O’Sullivan (Andy O’Sullivan Geotechnical engineering) and Nick Bamford (Bamford Consultants) will present on geotechnical and temporary works aspects of the SH25A Taparahi Bridge constructed in 2023. Construction of the bridge was accelerated following collapse of the road due to the January 2023 flood events. Traffic was restored less than 12 months after the closure but this required physical works to start before design was completed.

Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the event sponsor, Safesmart Access.

Numbers of attendees are limited - so be sure to register!
