Functional Safety is the part of the overall safety of a system that focuses on the use of automated systems to respond to adverse events that pose a risk to the safety of the system. Several standards and reports are published on the topic of Functional Safety. This presentation and discussion will focus on the practical application of these standards to achieve realistic risk reduction results at a facility. The discussion will be based on IEC 61508 with a specific focus on Process Functional Safety based on IEC 61511. Anyone wanting to know more about the practical application of Functional Safety at their sites to manage their site risk should attend.

The presenter, Paul Ganter, is the Industrial Safety and OT Cyber Security manager for SGS ECL. With a career spanning 25 years and multiple countries he has worked at all stages of the lifecycle of a facility, from design and construction to operate and maintain across a broad range of industries. He is a certified Functional Safety Expert and a committee member for ISA 84 (Functional Safety) and ISA 18.2 (Alarm Management).
