You’re competent and committed. Take your career to the next level by registering as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng). A Chartered Professional Engineer is an experienced engineer who has been assessed as meeting a quality mark of competence. It shows the engineer can deal with complex engineering problems requiring expert technical knowledge.

Becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer, or CPEng, is an essential part of many engineers’ careers, but it can be overwhelming and confusing to begin the process. We’ve put together this self-paced online module to help you to understand the necessary steps that you will need to take.

Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • explain the difference between Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and Chartered Member.
  • prepare yourself for a chartered assessment.
  • understand the chartered assessment process.

Intended audience

This online module is designed for engineers with five or more years of experience, who do not already have CPEng but are about to (or already in the process of) complete a Chartership assessment.

Course format

This is a self-directed learning module that learners work through at their own pace. Content is presented through a mix of reading, interactive activities to check your understanding and self-reflection points.

Course completion: There is no pass/fail assessment on this module. To complete the module, open the e-learning course below and work through it, then tick the box beneath to confirm you have completed all self-directed activities. There is a feedback survey at the bottom of the course page and we ask that you provide your feedback on this module.

Course duration: This module takes approximately 2 hours to complete, including working through all sections of the modules and completing any self-reflection activities. As you are guided to work through each step of the CPEng process, however, it may take longer. You do not need to complete the full module in one sitting. Your progress will be saved as you compete each section of the module, providing that you re-open the module on the same device that you first accessed it.

Learners have access to the modules for six months from the date of registration, at which point their registration will expire.
