This training unit provides five scenarios of commonly encountered challenging claims to apply learning of previous training units to.

Te Ao Rangahau Engineering New Zealand hosts this training unit on behalf of Toka Tū Ake The Earthquake Commission, who developed the unit content. This unit is the fifth in a series of five training units designed to be completed in order, providing information and guidance to support Geotechnical specialists when assessing an EQC claim for an EQC Assessor. If you have not completed the previous units in the series, it is recommended that you do so prior to commencing this unit.

In this training unit, we will explore the more commonly encountered challenging claims to give you the opportunity to apply what you have learnt in the previous units in this programme.

These challenging claims will be broken up into 5 scenarios. These scenarios will ask questions relating to the claim and provide you with some model answers. This scenario will also provide you information on who you would need to discuss the claim with and a real-life geotechnical engineering report.

Note: this training unit contains audio.

Learning outcomes

After completing this unit, the learner will be able to apply the learning of previous units to:

  • Describe what information an assessor needs based on each scenario
  • Explain what files/information an assessor needs to complete their report based on each scenario
  • Describe what on site checks an assessor needs to make for each scenario
  • Identify who the assessor would need to discuss the assessment with based on each scenario

Intended audience

This module is designed for all engineers wanting to begin or refresh their learning journey on this topic. It is also suitable for those whose work relates to or supports the engineering field.
