In this recorded webinar, we will explore when to, and when not to, use FEA (Finite Element Analysis).

Simulation add-ons to 3D CAD systems are inexpensive and fairly easy to use.  But often these are not the fastest, least expensive or even the most accurate way to analyse your structures.

Generally, they are limited versions of extensive Computer Aided Analysis (CAE) softwares, and even the full versions are often not the best way to analyse your structures.

Alternative ways to analyse your structures will be suggested.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand whether FEA is appropriate to their needs, and understand alternatives to FEA analyses.
  • Understand what training is available, and how to support your engineers generally in their structural analysis efforts.
  • Know when to get specialists involved in your analyses.

Target Audience

This recorded webinar is mainly targeted at senior or project engineers who would like to understand whether their engineers should be using commonly available analysis software, what to use if not, and how to supplement their team’s capabilities when necessary.

It will also be valuable for engineers tasked with analysing, validating or verifying (certifying) designs for themselves, their company or their clients.

It is relevant for all engineers and project managers, in private or public practice.

Webinar Format

Using example projects, principles and concepts of general analysis methodologies will be introduced and explained.

We will discuss common problems and pitfalls that may be encountered while trying to analyse even a simple system, and strategies will be provided to address these.

Direction will be provided for when to use consultants to avoid inaccurate results, expensive scope creep and/or resulting failures.

Presenter Information

Greg Morehouse

Graduate level course work in Structural Analysis resulted in Greg Morehouse taking a Structural Analysis Liaison position to the US Air Force for Hercules Aerospace.  This fundamental expansion of FE theory with extensive real-world experience was a unique training ground.  After working as an Engineering Analyst for Boeing, Greg moved from Seattle to NZ. In 1999 Greg founded Motovated Design & Analysis, and still works in the business as CEO and Senior Engineering Analyst. Motovated specialises in engineering analysis, machine design, product development and safety engineering to worldwide markets.
