Āpōpō is the lead association for New Zealand’s infrastructure asset management professionals.
Our purpose is to enhance the capability of infrastructure asset management professionals for Aotearoa New Zealand.
We do this by:
- Publishing best practice guidance in asset management for Aotearoa – the Āpōpō Guide
- Providing online short courses and certificates in asset management – Digital Badges
- Delivering in person training across asset management disciplines
- Hosting asset management conferences and technical forums – Annual Congress, RIMS Forum, LDEG Forum
- Connecting globally with peer organisations
- Celebrating and supporting achievement and excellence in asset management – Āpōpō Awards and Scholarships
- Accreditation, endorsement of asset management competency and conduct standards at a professional level.
First known in 1948 as the New Zealand Institute of County Engineers, we have always moved with the times, and in 2023 changed name from IPWEA NZ to Āpōpō. The word Āpōpō means “tomorrow” in Te Reo Māori, which perfectly reflects the future perspective that managing infrastructure assets requires. Many asset management professionals commence their careers from an engineering background, with problem solving, analysis and structured thinking being core capabilities for successful asset management practice.
Five regional branches and four special interest groups ensure there are frequent opportunities to connect through Āpōpō with like-minded asset management practitioners to share experiences and expertise in a collegial setting.
