We recognise tertiary qualifications in engineering or engineering geology from New Zealand and overseas.
Engineering discipline
To join as an Emerging Professional or Member, your qualification needs to be in an engineering or engineering geology discipline.
Geology and computing/information technology degrees are only recognised if they are in an engineering or engineering geology discipline.
Tertiary level
To join as an Emerging Professional or Member, your qualification needs to be at a tertiary level.
- Undergraduate – Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Bachelor Honours Degree
- Postgraduate – Graduate Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree
Trade certificates aren’t recognised.
New Zealand or overseas
Your qualification can be from New Zealand or overseas.

Accord recognition
To join as an Emerging Professional or Member, your qualification doesn’t need to be Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accord-accredited.
To become Chartered you need to have a Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accord-accredited qualification or equivalence.

Affiliate Membership is open to anyone with an interest in engineering and technology – you don’t need to have a recognised qualification.
