Work to transform the construction sector through the Construction Sector Accord has pivoted in the last weeks to focus on supporting the industry’s response to Covid-19.
Our Chief Executive, Susan Freeman-Greene, is part of a Construction Sector Accord group working through a response plan to Covid-19. One of our past Presidents, Dean Kimpton, is leading this work with the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE). The work of the group is being provided to the Treasury, Ministers and Cabinet.
On Monday 5 April, the Construction Sector Accord released details of its response plan. The plan has three phases, as follows:
- Phase 1: maintain – retain a viable sector during the shutdown
- Phase 2: restart – ensure readiness to restart works and accelerate projects
- Phase 3: transform – refocus on high performance

Health and safety guidelines
One of the things we have heard a lot about is the need to have clear Covid-19 guidelines in place for workers when level 4 restrictions lift. The Construction Sector Accord, with CHASNZ, is focused on developing guidelines and we expect these to be ready for release soon.
