Attendees at the inaugural Engineering :: Innovation summit on 16 March were quick to praise the speakers for their stimulating stories about engineering, technology and innovation. Ninety-five percent of respondents to our survey said they had a positive experience, and that they found the presentations dynamic and diverse.
Outgoing President Craig Price noted, “It was an amazing day of thought-provoking conversation surrounding the future of not only our respective industries, but our world.”
Here are some eye-opening insights from the day:
- According to Ross De Rango of NHP Electrical, the electrification of New Zealand’s road transport will be driven by price alone, with the energy costs of typical electric cars being a tenth of that of the average petrol car.
- Only 3 percent of 15-year-old girls are considering a career in tech according to Mahsa Mohaghegh, founder of She#
- Dr Jackson Clark told us about how Brookfield Scientific Solutions are building an infrastructure design team that is primed for innovation, including by employing a high-performance driver.
- Tonkin + Taylor’s James Hughes said, “the way countries around the world manage sea level rise and coastal challenges” will be one of the most pressing challenges that will affect our lives over the next five years.
