Kishan Seger CMEngNZ CPEng IntPE(NZ) has joined the Engineering New Zealand Governing Board as Emerging Member.

Kishan-Seger-077

Kishan is currently Technical Director – Sustainability & Design at Preformance Building Technologies in Auckland. He also won the Young Engineer Award at the 2023 Engineering New Zealand ENVI Awards and stood for Engineering New Zealand’s most recent Board election, polling the highest among candidates eligible to be emerging members.

In his new role as Emerging Member, Kishan will bring a fresh and innovative perspective with a new age lens on climate change, sustainability and technology. He says,

As a young engineer of South-East Asian descent who has a passion for lowering our impact on the environment, I will strive to be a voice for the younger and future generations.

He also believes his “start-up” perspective will be a valuable addition to the Board, having been integral to setting the strategic direction of Preformance, a newly formed company, where he holds a senior leadership position.

Born in Malaysia, Kishan grew up in Papua New Guinea before moving to Aotearoa, instilling in him a strong appreciation for different cultural backgrounds and the importance of indigenous cultures. “I believe that promoting Te Ao Māori in our profession is greatly important and I am fully committed on advancing Engineering New Zealand’s commitment on doing so,” he says.

Engineering New Zealand Chief Executive Dr Richard Templer welcomes Kishan’s appointment. “Kishan has strong ties to Engineering New Zealand, having served as chair of the Young Engineers of Auckland and more recently on the Bay of Plenty regional committee. He’s a sought-after mentor and an excellent communicator, with a clear passion for the future of engineering and sustainability.”

The Board requested expressions of interest in the Emerging Member role following the AGM in March and were thrilled by the calibre of applicants they received, as well as the commitment of emerging professionals to Engineering New Zealand and the profession.

Kishan’s term will end at the next AGM, in March 2025.
