Engineering New Zealand delivered this report to MBIE to help illustrate the impact of the revised (yellow) chapter of C5 on assessments. It’s an independent technical assessment that MBIE contracted us to provide.
To produce the report, we analysed evidence from building assessments. We found that while overall %NBS results were generally similar using the Yellow Chapter and the Red Book, component scores were different.
This finding is significant – understanding which elements are weakest affects retrofitting and strengthening priorities and decisions.
Floor systems was an area where MBIE wanted more detail. We’re now working on a second phase, targeting floor systems, to help MBIE’s decision-making on the revised (yellow) chapter of C5’s regulatory status.
This second project phase is due for completion by November 2020. Once MBIE receives our report, it will decide on next steps.
