We know that it has been a tough time for engineers across New Zealand, with the halting of infrastructure projects impacting many of you. You will have seen the work we’ve been doing to raise the challenges the profession is facing and advocating for you.  In addition to this, we want to remind you about the range of support we have available to members. We hope that these offerings will help provide support during times of uncertainty.

Fee support

With many engineers facing a downturn in work, we have ways to support members with Engineering New Zealand fees. If you take leave from work for at least six months, whether it be due to unemployment or other circumstances, you might qualify for a career break.

If you are on a career break, you can keep your Engineering New Zealand membership for a discounted fee, we can apply this for the next membership year. You’ll continue to receive our membership magazine, email newsletters and be able to stay in touch with your branch. You’ll also still have access to our other membership offerings.

If you’re a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) you can put your registration on hold. You’ll pay a reduced fee and keep your access to our online system. You can take a break at any time during your career, except the year you’re due for reassessment.

Please reach out to us if you are in this situation or want to discuss other hardship options membership@engineeringnz.org.

Wellbeing support

You’re not alone if you’re finding the current times stressful – engineering can be stressful at the best of times. What we do is often very complex and the decisions we make can impact on other people’s quality of life and physical safety.

Our friends at MAS support  our wellbeing programme and provide all members free six month access to their Akī Wellbeing Hub.

In addition to this, we also have a range of wellbeing resources available on our website.

Connecting with other members

Stay connected to the profession and your local community through our regional Branch and Young Engineer groups and special interest groups. The committees organise a range of technical and networking events throughout the year to keep you informed and connected.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming webinar series on employability which will cover topics such as your personal brand, CV and cover letter writing and resilience.
