Our advocacy covers a range of issues – like infrastructure, resilience, transportation, the building system, professional regulation, STEM education and the skills pipeline. We also advocate on issues of sufficient interest or impact on engineers or engineering disciplines, and public issues in which we can add value to from an engineering perspective.

How we advocate

We collaborate to maximise impact

The views of members and expertise of technical groups ensure our ability to address complex issues is well informed, impactful, and representative of shared concerns. We engage with other stakeholders such as the Engineering Leadership Forum to share, learn and collaborate with a stronger voice.

We are proactive and reactive

Engineering New Zealand engages in proactive and reactive advocacy. Reactive is where we respond to an event – this could be a media article, or government consultation document requesting submissions. Proactive is where we identify a matter of national importance to add value to and determine a way to get involved.
