Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool that can help Engineering New Zealand Te Ao Rangahau in our work, including creating content. We take a managed approach to how we use AI in content creation. We do so with the aims of enhancing our productivity and creativity, and allowing us to better serve our members, the engineering profession, and the public.
Our AI policies and standards
Our use of AI tools for content creation is based on the following principles and standards:
Quality and accuracy
Any content that is generated or assisted by AI is vetted for accuracy, quality, appropriateness, and freedom from bias or misinformation.
Security and privacy
No private personal information or sensitive data is used with AI tools that is contrary to the provisions of the Privacy Act 2020.
Intellectual property
If we become aware that content we have created using AI infringes another’s intellectual property we will take steps to rectify the situation as soon as possible.
How we use AI for content creation
AI is a rapidly evolving technology and as new AI tools become available we will continue to adapt their use into our existing processes. Below are a few examples of some common ways in which we currently use AI in content creation.
Generating ideas
We may use AI to suggest potential headlines, topics, and other content ideas, which we evaluate for inclusion in our publications.
Drafting content
We may use AI to help generate drafts of content, including articles, headlines, social media posts, emails, newsletters, policy and guideline documentation and other documents and publications. This assists our team in refining and enhancing the final published content.
Review and editing
We may use AI to help summarise content, making it easier for our team to review and ensure it meets our standards. We may use AI tools to edit and improve existing content, to help in catching grammatical errors, ensure consistency, and maintain our editorial style.
Content will always be reviewed by a person before publication to ensure it meets our standards and values.
