Sector Programmes develops and delivers projects collaboratively with government regulators, engineers and others. Alongside them, we tackle big issues that impact all New Zealanders.
How we work
Engineers and government regulators approach us with their ideas and issues. Then it’s our job to lead projects to deal with complex system-wide problems.
We’re a connector between government and the sectors it serves, to design solutions for the betterment of the engineering profession and New Zealanders – think regulation, best engineering practice, resilience and sustainability.
We partner with our technical groups and match their members’ skills and expertise with the needs of our projects, so they can provide technical advice and input – and get paid for doing so.
We step in where no one else can – or will, and we’ll never participate in bidding processes against consultants or others. Our driver is to improve the systems engineers operate within. We provide support to make sure big issues can be dealt with.
Types of work we do
Our projects’ outcomes inform, promote, and uphold the calibre of engineering practice, such as:
- Harnessing lessons engineers have learnt about building resilience in earthquakes – and working with them to use these insights to develop guidance to assess and remediate existing buildings - and design new ones
- Supporting the development and review of guidelines and modules that are vital for effective engineering practice – and that raise the bar, especially in the building sector
- Designing solutions, products, training and guidance for heavy vehicle engineers.
Our current partners
Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
MBIE partners with us for our deep connections with the engineering community and wider building sector – as well as for our regulatory independence and our proven project management service.
New Zealand Transport Agency / Waka Kotahi (NZTA)
NZTA partners with us to enable heavy vehicle specialist certifiers to develop an improved future state for their profession – codes of practice, training and other regulatory support products and guidance. Considering how much of New Zealand's good are transported by heavy vehicle – we support our heavy vehicle engineers as a vital part of the value chain.
